BRAG has been administering the HUD Section 8 Rental Assistance Program since its beginning in the area in 1986. The program was first available in Logan City then expanded to the entire tri-county region in 1990. The program provides help to eligible low-income families and individuals to enable them to rent decent, safe, and affordable housing of their choice through rental subsidies to private landlords. The program presently has an annual budget of over $2 million to provide rental assistance to 566 families. The Rental Assistance Program gives families who are elderly, disabled, or working toward self sufficiency either through employment or education a higher priority rating for selection from the program's waiting list, which currently includes approximately 500 families. The use of the priority selection system ensures a high "graduation" rate from the program, freeing up the funds to assist other families in need. |
